New features and 2019 data now added

Road Safety Posted on Sat, February 13, 2021 11:09:41

After a long procrastination, finally managed to add the Heatmap visualisation that was suggested at the first iteration of the website!

Updates in TIM v 3.0:

  • allows toggling heatmap and markers for better visualisation.
  • plots 2019 data

Upcoming releases at some point in future will include,

  • ability to compare the local trend with national trend for the selected injury statistic
  • plotting location of twitter posts, unsure how doable and sensible it is

On a different note, it is staggering to note in the 2019 Dft report that there has been just over 20% drop in fatalities from road injuries during 1979-2019. Curiously, trend appears to be plateauing. I wondering what the numbers of 2020 would like due to drastic reduction in traffic.

2013 STATS19 Data now on Road-Injuries.info

Road Safety Posted on Mon, October 06, 2014 21:29:21

After mustering all the thought power and recovering from the weekend hangovers..finally managed to update the road-injuries.info to inlcude:

  1. 2013 STATS19 Data
  2. Fixes to bring the google mashup upto date
  3. Tidying up by revising minor typos and removing the US data (just too many variables..)
  4. Introducing Google MarkerCluster visualisation, which allows a basic multi-scale visualisation of the road injury clusters.

However, despite numerous attempts, I was unable to include a live twitter feed of road traffic related tweets, and a statistical representation of the local vs nationwide comparison of the date.
Something for future…

UK 2011 Data Added

Road Safety Posted on Wed, September 12, 2012 08:47:42

Only recently discovered that the 2011 STATS19 dataset was now available along with previous years ones in the very well put together webpage on data.gov. So, 2011 casualties have been promptly added to TIM.

UK 2009 Added

Road Safety Posted on Mon, October 25, 2010 07:55:47

After a rather prolonged hiatus, I finally managed to get around to upload the 2009 data for UK. The lack of other year’s is mainly due to limited disk space size. It is perhaps also relevant to observe the injury patterns with temporal gaps.

Data for USA Released

Road Safety Posted on Sat, March 14, 2009 13:22:43

Finally, managed to upload the data from FARS so the viewers can now query the 2007 road traffic injury data from US.

Some links to similar websites in US and Australia are also available in the more information section.
